A Discussion About the Mayan Calendar

Here is a Prezi we looked at and discussed in class today - a timely topic and related to worldview concepts we cover in class.  It helped for students to look at it from a more of a historical perspective to understand why the Mayans had this calendar and how it is being interpreted.

Students are working on a group activity to determine what medieval society was like in Europe prior to humanism.  On Wednesday, students will be sharing their understandings and participating in an activity to demonstrate the social hierarchy of that period.  We did watch this YouTube clip as an introduction, and will go into the roles of society members further.

Welcome to 8C

Well, it has been a busy start to the year...as usual.  I am finally getting around to getting the class blog going again.  Please use this site as a daily update of homework for 8C, events that are happening in our classroom, and learning that is happening in my social studies classes.  I often put links to materials we have referred to in class, or embed presentations I created or used in class.  You can use the tags in the sidebar to locate particular information.  The YouTube videos are educational or of interest videos, again used or discussed in class throughout the year.

Welcome to 8C and I hope everyone has a wonderful year!
